These whimsical fish-shaped jugs are available in three sizes - small, medium and large - yet the colors featured through the years have been vast and beautiful. While there are no records of exactly when Shreve, Crump & Low first offered their Gurgling Cod Pitcher, it is known that the original pitchers were made at the request of Benjamin Dale Shreve (whose son, Richard, would be the last family member to run the company), and that they were modeled after a traditional English "glug jug" (turn one over and pour out water to hear this delightful sound). What made Shreve, Crump & Low's cod pitchers unique and special however was the specific look with anatomically correct fins, gills, and scales of a fish native to our very own waters.
